The phoenix effect !

The most overused saying which doesn't need to be necessarily positive; “failure is the stepping stone to success”. The one who understands its true meaning tastes success in the end. This is the case of Michael Phelps, a man who was undefeated since 2005, lost his first major championship recently. Not only was he beaten, he was beaten with a record time. The individual who put an end to the long winning streak was Germany's Paul Biedermann. The loss surprised Phelps but he took it like  a true sportsman. The 14 Olympic gold medalists gave credit to the swimmer's ability than the suit which many believed helped in saving time. But this loss as said earlier was just a minor glitch along the way. Michael Phelps returned with a vengeance for his next race. It was his third race of the world aquatics championships, and the race was 20m butterfly. The champion proved his dominance by winning the gold and also with flair by beating the world record set by him. In the end of the tournament, he was seen taking home, a tally of 6 medals which includes 5 gold and 1 silver medals. The phoenix would continue to soar high.

The crown prince of F1 returns !

The world's greatest f1 driver would be returning to the formula one circuit after being retired for 3 years. At the age of 40, he would be racing with people half his age and the other drivers including last year's champion, Louis Hamilton who is said to be excited.

This unexpected turn of events, was only because of the freak accident which took place during the qualifiers at the Hungarian grand prix. A spring dislodged from the Brawn’s car driven by Rubens Barrichello, struck the helmet of the Ferrari’s driver, Felipe Massa. Although not gravely injured, he wouldn't be racing this season. This left the Ferrari team in a fix as they didn't have a replacement for Massa. As the saying goes, desperate times calls for desperate measures and who is better than the man who has won seven world championships driving a Ferrari? - Michael Schumacher.

This is great news for the fans, as the current season had been filled with problems starting with the controversial budget cap and teams threatening to withdraw. The return of Schumi, will help us get by the past couple of months, and let us enjoy the upcoming European grand prix.

The lightning bolt of the century

Many of us would have competed in running races and a whole lot of us would not have even completed the course. So when you hear a man named bolt who can run a 100 m dash in 9.69 seconds, you think it's some kind of joke. Well, to burst your bubble, such a man exists. His name is Usain Bolt and he is from Jamaica. A man from a humble background was urged by his cricket coach to try track and field events. The rest is history. Bolt not only turned out to be the only man who held both Olympic and world records for 100m and 200m , he also became the first man to win all 3 events at a single Olympics , namely 100m , 200m and 4x100 m relay since 1984. Practically, a runner would like somebody to catch up with him, or at least the fear of somebody breathing down his neck. This kind of a motivation helps a track athlete to achieve targets which seem unrealistic. The competition for Bolt is a person called Tyson Gray. A sport is fun as long there is some kind of competition and here, the “fastest man on the earth” has found his own records as a competition.

An infatuation with sports

People ask whether its "infatuation" or "love" that is more dangerous. I would say infatuation is more dangerous because I have had an infatuation with sports since when I was 10 and still I just can't let myself sleep without catching up an important game of football either at the stadium or at my home. Leave alone football, even F1 excites me to the core. When Ronaldo kicks the ball into the goal or when Lewis Hamilton races ahead of others, the adrenaline rush makes us scream in joy. So much is the infatuation with sports for sports crazy people like me. This blog, Sports Kick is dedicated to all those sports crazy people and people who have more than infatuation with sports. Read on for all about sports and the people who make us fall in love with them.
